I created this site to give myself a place to deposit knitting thoughts that I felt an impulse to share. I like to tinker with knitting design, and particularly sweater design, so a lot of my posts are about my current sweater projects. Though I still have a lot to learn about design, one of the things I enjoy most about knitting is figuring out what a certain yarn that I have in my possession ought to become. When I was a child, I wanted to be a fashion designer, and it feels sometimes like I’ve come full circle (in my own idiosyncratic way).
I have two published patterns to my name: Sheldon the turtle appears in the winter 2006/2007 Knitty. Sheldon also has a blog of his very own. And the Buster sweater won the September 2007 Jimmy Beans Wool design contest. Both patterns are free. My pattern for the Dappled baby cardigan and hat is available from Sanguine Gryphon Fiber Arts. I also have a number of free patterns available on my Designs page.
I live in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with my husband, David, who is a U.S. history professor. He is very tolerant and kind about the knitting.
Thank you for posting your vintage santa claus stockign design. My mother-in-law has made dozens and the pattern was worn and tatterted so I was having a difficult time recreating it. I managed to find the official pattern name and yarn company and I landed on your blog journal. Thanks so much!!!!!
I just found your blog and am so thankful for the vintage 1950′s candle christmas stocking pattern! weeeee!
Are you on twitter at all? I’d love to follow and keep up!
My handle is above or also @OhYeah_Her
Thanks and happy knitting!
I am so excited to find the candle stocking pattern. My mother-in-law made these stockings for my husband, myself, and our two daughters many years ago. We would like to continue the tradition and add one for our new son-in-law.
Thank you for publishing the pattern!
Do you have the chart for the Article No. 2665 Kriss Kringle santa stocking? I have directions, but the chart is old and difficult to read. Thanks.
I am looking for a vintage Christmas stocking pattern that is very close to the ones in your photos. The colors are the same–red-toe, white band with year born, green band with Santa carrying a sack, red band with two Christmas trees decorated with sequins, white band personalized, and green rib at the top. Do you have the pattern? Likely Bernat, since it is so similar to ones you have posted. Many thanks for your help. I would like to knit one for my godchild’s son to match the one I knitted for her 30 odd years ago! n.mcaninch@hotmail.com
just wondering if anyone knows if you can translate a Kriss Kringle Columbia Minerva stocking pattern to a crochet pattern?
Hi, I’m knitting Sheldon the turtle and it’s almost done. The problem is that I’m stuck in the fishing part, especificly the I-Cord.
Do you have any pictures of how to put the shell and the attachment panel together. Is there a video that I can follow?
Please, I’m very sad because I made everything but now I can’t put them all together. :’(
Thanks
